This tool is adequate for teachers, researchers or whoever wants to send a slurl, some notes or instructions by email . Furthermore, the Outworld Mail Box is suitable for anyone who has a place in Second Life because we can make the tools available for visitors who want to get in touch with us by email.
To use the tool, you have to follow follow two steps.
1 Preparing the tool.
First, we must rezz the tool. Then, we open it and , in the contents label , we will see that there is a script and a config note inside. We must open the script and click on reset option. Then, we open the config note and we will introduce the email address where we want to send the contents (or our email in case we prepare the tool to receive them) instead of the email address which is written. We can also change the message that will appear into the local chat once time the email has been sent. Below, we include the text that appears in the config. note.
Put your email after the colon :xxxxxxxx@gmail.com
2. Sending the email.
We touch the mail box and the tool will ask us to type in the local chat the text we want to send. All the text we have added before hitting return will be sent to the email address we have added to the config notecard . We must wait three seconds and in the local chat will appear a message that says that the email has been sent.
It is important to point out that the tool contains a filter function that makes it possible to send only the text written or paste in the local chat by the avatar who touches the tool. This is important because although the local chat is full of text written by several avatars, only the text written or pasted by the avatar who touches the tool will be sent.
Another thing to consider is the fact that the recipient of the email, apart from the contents, will receive a text which informs us about the region and the local-position from which the email was sent. Below, we introduce an example:
Region: MUVEnation (162304, 238592)
Local-Position: (151, 204, 23)
Outworld mail box is very useful because you don´t have to go out from Second Life to open your mail account to send an email. The disadvantage of the Outworld mail box is that you need to change the config. note each time you want to send an email to a different person, take the tool and rezz it from your inventory.
That is the reason why probably the best applications of this tool are sending emails to oneself or to a mail list (you can send notecards, landmarks, even small notes or student lists names) The other suitable application of this tool is having it available on our land in Second Life to receive emails from our visitors.
This tool has an old version with the same name made indeed by DoctorPartridge Allen , which is available in International Schools (http://slurl.com/secondlife/International%20Schools/30/91/73) but we recommended you use this one because it is easier to manage than the older one. To use the old version, we must modify the script and add the email address we want to send the email to. In this new version, we only need to modify the config note that is in the label content. Remember: before modifying the config. note, we must reset the script .

Context / Learning Context
Outworld Mail Box works as a bridge between Second Life and "Real Life". This tool has two main applications, both related to improving our ways of communication when we use Second Life:
1 Sending content from Second Life to "Real World" and 2, Receiving content from Second Life into our email account
1 Sending content from Second Life to "Real World"
We can use this tool if we want to send a quick note, a slurl or even the text we have saved into a notecard to an email account (we can copy the text from the notecard and paste it into the local chat) to our students, colleagues or to ourselves if we don´t want waste time opening our email account to do so.
2 Receiving contents from Second Life
We can make the Outworld Mail Box available in a place we own in Second Life in order to receive suggestions, comments and questions from our visitors. This is very useful because thanks to this tool we become available for avatars who are interested in being in touch with us. They can send to us an instantaneous message (IM) but sometimes, if we have many avatar contacts, when we enter Second Life, we can feel ovewhelmed by IMs and we do not pay attention to them.
