Twinity

I have now got my acceptance for Twinity Beta (http://www.twinity.com).

I have filled in the profile data. I was surprised that the oldest one could be was 60 (the year of birth could not be earlier than 1948), this really is ageist. At the moment this isn’t a problem for me – but it will be one day!

Anyway I got the account set up and I was invited to set up my location – the selection didn’t quite match the instructions, but I worked it out. I started creating Rosie’s Place a top floor apartment. When I tried to put it in Reading, I was offered lots of Readings to choose from, including several in the UK, these al seemed to be variants of the place I am really in, but associated with Bracknell, Windsor etc – I presume the whole area covered by RG postcodes, anyway I settled for reading, Reading, UK.

Then I teleported to Rosie’s Place, and my avatar appeared, she has the label “Shirley”, strangely I had expected her to be “Rosie” – but it seems that your avatar has to be you.

I then found the option to edit the avatar’s appearance; I can alter her height, weight, age, etc. Interestingly here she can be aged 16 -64. There wasn’t an option for grey hair – just the standard blond, brunette shades, but the colour picker allowed me to choose a blue rinse, but I later decided brown was better. The clothes options weren’t very exciting. There were a few dresses to choose from, and some tops and bikinis. I invested 20 Globals in a black top, I don’t know what Globals are, or what the Exchange rate is – but I had 1,000.

I went and had a wander round my apartment; I decorated one wall with a picture from Second Life, as I seem to be able to upload stuff from my computer. The apartment itself is bare. I then visited a Welcome area – it wasn’t very welcoming! At that point I decided it was enough for one day.

I’ve decided I really need to read more about Twinity, to see what else I can do.
