EduIsland 2 and ISTE

A few weeks ago I arranged to meet up with Caren/Claird in SL. She is completing her doctorate at Teachers College, Columbia University on eLearning. She also belongs to a number of SL groups related to education.

 EduIsland 2

We started off at: EduIsland 2 which calls itself: the #1 home for technology in teaching, we met in SLolar http://slurl.com/secondlife/Eduisland%20II/41/228/53 a lounge area for educators. A great place for chatting, and you can apparently get free residence here for a few months, so it is good for meeting new people. (see http://flickr.com/photos/ssswills/1471913435).

We then went over to the Teacher Networking Centre – there are lots of displays here and freebies – I definitely need to come back, there are lots of things here that are examples of good practice (http://flickr.com/photos/ssswills/1471913441).

We then had a musical interlude on the drums (http://flickr.com/photos/ssswills/1471913453).

ISTE

Then we teleported over to ISTE http://slurl.com/secondlife/ISTE%20Island/102/75/30.

ISTE is the International Society for Technology in Education (www.iste.org) there are lots of things here worth looking at but I really didn’t have time. ISTE organise social events for teachers in SL on Thursday evening at 6pm SLT (however SLT is I think 8 hours behind me and I am not usually very sociable at 2.00 am on Fridays) (http://flickr.com/photos/ssswills/1471913457).

Recommendation

It is great to have a knowledgeable guide, and Caren’s tours whet my appetite and I will visit both place again.

PS Rosie was having a green day – we were trying to emulate Elphaba from the musical Wicked.
